Upgrading a Licensed Copy of BBEdit
BBEdit version upgrades are only available direct from Bare Bones Software. Please review the information and requirements below carefully before placing your order.
All registered owners of BBEdit version 2.5 and later are eligible to upgrade to BBEdit 8.7. Upgrade pricing is as follows:
US$30 (plus shipping and handling if applicable) for owners of BBEdit 8.0 thru 8.2.6*
US$40 (plus S&H if applicable) for owners of BBEdit 7.1.4 and earlier
US$25 (download only) for customers who purchased new BBEdit 8 educational licenses at the US$49 price*
* Note: Educational copies purchased at the previous US$119 price are full individual licenses, not restricted-use educational licenses.

You must provide your existing product serial number when ordering the version upgrade. (If you cannot locate your product serial number, or are upgrading from an older version which did not use serial numbers, please contact our Sales Department for assistance.)
Where to look for your BBEdit serial number:
For BBEdit 4.5, 5.x, and 6.x, your product serial number is shown in the sticker on the CD jewelcase.
For copies of BBEdit 7.x or 8.x purchased from our online store (whether on CD or via download), your product serial number is in your order confirmation email.
For copies of BBEdit 7.x or 8.x purchased from a reseller (e.g. MacMall) or in any physical store (e.g the Apple Store or a campus bookstore), your product serial number is shown in the sticker on the CD jewelcase.
Versions of BBEdit prior to 4.5 did not have product serial numbers; please contact our Sales Department for assistance.
Free Upgrade Eligibility
If you purchased BBEdit 8.2 on or after January 1, 2006, you are eligible to receive an upgrade to BBEdit 8.7 free of charge.

TextWrangler 2 users
Individuals who use TextWrangler may purchase BBEdit at the normal price of US$125 via our online store.
Dreamweaver 1.0 and 2.0 purchasers
Full-priced copies of Dreamweaver 1.x and 2.x were bundled with an older version of BBEdit (4.5 or 5.x), which is eligible for a version upgrade to BBEdit 8.7 for only US$40.
To place an upgrade order, please contact our Sales Department directly, and have your Dreamweaver 1.x or 2.x serial number available.
Copies of Dreamweaver 2 purchased via ESD, or purchased for academic use or via a volume license, as well as all copies of Dreamweaver 3.0 and later, include only the demo version of BBEdit and thus do not qualify for a version upgrade. Anyone owning these versions may purchase BBEdit at the normal price of US$125 via our online store.
BBEdit Lite users (any version)
Individuals who use BBEdit Lite may purchase BBEdit at the normal price of US$125 via our online store.
