Getting Stuff Into Yojimbo
People will only use something if it’s easy, and Yojimbo is close to effortless.
Yojimbo’s Flexibility
- You can copy what you want to store and use a hot key (F8 is the one Yojimbo uses unless you change it) to open the Quick Input Panel.
- You can drag what you want to store (a bookmark, a PDF file or clipping) to the Mac OS X Dock, or to the Yojimbo window or to Yojimbo’s Drop Dock.
- If you’re using Custom Collections, you can drop what you’re dragging onto a Collection to assign it to that Collection.
- You can select something you want to store in Yojimbo and use Mac OS X services to import the selection or URL.
- Import many items at once using Yojimbo’s Import menu. This is one way you might move stuff from whatever you used before into Yojimbo.
- or you can even Print to Yojimbo! Yojimbo works with you…
Quick Input Panel
Anything you’ve copied can be stored in Yojimbo—the goal of the Quick Input Panel is to store it with the minimum effort on your part. Simply copy something, press F8, make any changes in the item’s name and type and click “Create”.

Yojimbo recognizes URLs and will choose either Bookmark or Web Archive based on what you’ve chosen in Preferences. Of course, you can choose which you want when creating the Item. Yojimbo uses the title of the page for the item name when creating a web archive.
Yojimbo has a special feature for those Bookmarks you only need to see once, and at your convenience—a friend sends a url to a humorous site, but you have more important things to do and you’ll never find it in your browser’s bookmarks. Pop it into Yojimbo, check the “Move to trash after opening” box, and boom—Time Shifted Browsing.
Yojimbo’s Drop Dock
If you prefer drag & drop to a hot key, or you like to assign things to Collections right away, the Drop Dock is for you! Set which side of your screen it appears on, drag something to it and drop it onto Yojimbo’s Drop Dock.

When you drop a url (aka “webloc”) on the Drop Dock, Yojimbo uses the title of the page the url refers to as the Bookmark name.
Print to Yojimbo
Whenever you purchase something on the Internet, or pay a bill, or book a flight, or reserve a room, or…, you’ll have a chance to print your receipt. Store it in Yojimbo using Mac OS X PDF services. Never wonder where that receipt is again!
