BBEdit’s System Administration and Unix Features

BBEdit offers the System Administrator & UNIX user powerful tools as well:

  • Authenticated saves
  • Access and manipulate locked and hidden unix files for system administration both locally and on remote volumes—now open files for editing that are only readable by root. (For example, /etc/sudoers)
  • Shell Worksheets to store and execute Unix command lines by means of a shell worksheet—type, delete, and edit text in a worksheet window just as in an ordinary BBEdit document window
  • Transparently search, open, and save gzip (.gz) compressed text files New!
  • Shell Worksheets provide a unique command-line experience, complete with ‘sudo’ support
  • bbedit command-line tool: invoke BBEdit from anywhere in the Unix command line to open files—you can now hand sftp/ftp URLs off to BBEdit through the command line tool Improved!
  • Invoke Find Differences from the command line with “bbdiff”
  • Optional Emacs keybinding support
